ROYAL ROADS REUNION 2011

Accomodation:  RRU has made arrangements for rooms with a discount at the Victoria Marriott Inner Harbour
                       Hotel.  Call 1-866-306-5451 and ask for the RRU ALUMNI group rate or register online at:
                       www.victoriamarriott.com and enter group code: HOMHOMA. (It is anticipated that this contract
                       will be extended to include Sunday evening - updated 27 May)

Here is a summary of the events planned for the RRU Alumni Homecoming weekend. 

Thursday 8 September

Golf is available; please notify dclett@shaw.ca - groups and tee times to follow. Salmon fishing with
local friends may be an option depending on the numbers interested.

CSC Royal Roads '61 Grads Meet and Greet at the Gorge Vale Golf Club  (book with Dave Lett)

Victoria, the golf club provides a cozy, informal atmosphere to relax and reminisce. Some of the local
guys from our seniors (Class of '60) and our juniors (Class of '62) are invited to join the mob.
18:00 hrs - Dress business informal - Hot H'ors d'Oeuvres - Cash bar; $25 cost collected at the event.

Friday 9 September

Tour and Demonstration Cruise on HMCS Ottawa. Boarding planned for 0730 hrs for an 0900
departure; lasting until mid afternoon. Dress informal (warm). This event is contingent on availability
of ship. May be on Saturday or may not be available on either day. No cost for tour. Highly
recommended.

Golf is available; Dave Lett will arrange tee times.


18:00 hrs - RRU President’s Welcoming Reception on the Quarterdeck. Dress; blazer & tie; no charge

19:30 hrs – Repatriation ceremony for Mace and Replica of Nelson’s Motto at rear of Quarterdeck

Saturday 10 September

Golf is available; Dave Lett can arrange tee times.

09:30 hrs - Tour of the new Learning and Innovation Centre (LIC); Robert Bateman possible

attendance. Dress casual. The Castle, Gardens and Grounds are open to returning alumni with David
Rutherford in attendance.

Noon – Lunch (Trivia contest by Tables); Briefs and Discussion on the RRU programme including the

Bateman project hosted at the LIC. $28 cost includes HST.

Afternoon – Scavenger Hunt throughout Gardens and Grounds; Continued availability to visit the

Castle

18:30 hrs - Buffet Dinner and Dance on Quarterdeck with Paul Wainwright band. Dress blazer & tie.

$89.60 cost includes HST

Sunday 11 September

10:30 hrs - Dedication of Class of 1961 aggregation of 65 granite paverstones surrounding the Mast.
Dress – Blazer and tie. The Class Project is described below. no charge
Mast ceremony conducted by Vancouver Island Ex-Cadet Club Padre; unveiling of a section of the
restored wall adjacent to the Mast.

11:30 hrs - Walk to Castle led by Sooke Pipes and Drums, toasts, finger food.

13:00 hrs - The traditional "Promenade Around the Circle" led by the the Sooke Pipe and Drums.
Farewell to old friends

RRU has arranged a preferential rate for rooms at the Marriott Inner Harbour; easy walking distance of

downtown. DND will likely provide a free bus service from the hotel to RRU for all the various
events. Those using private vehicles have free parking at RRU. A few suites/rooms may be available,
on campus.  (See note at bottom of page)

A professional photographer will be on hand at RRU for random and candid photos. Group photos will

be arranged for the main events and there will be an opportunity to purchase photos after the weekend.

The point man at Royal Roads University is Paul Longtin, the Senior Development Officer for the

Royal Roads University Foundation. Paul is a good friend to all Ex-cadets.
